Innovative practices in education: A global perspective!

Abstract

It is my unspeakable pleasure and joy to stand before this greatly noble assembly of scholars to glean documented experiences from across the world pertaining to the educational challenges faced in different countries of the world, the innovations necessitated by such challenges and the merits as well as the demerits of the innovations. I do not claim to be a repository of knowledge in this area of discourse. But I do hope that this piece shall set a good tone for other presentations that shall be made in the course of this intellectual enterprise.

There could not have been a more appropriate time than now for an international conference themed Innovative Practices in Education. This is because of the unimaginable waves of innovations that have been experienced in all spheres of life, the field of education inclusive. It is also safe to conclude that the theme will continue to be relevant since the obvious innovations that the field has experienced and indeed is experiencing have just started; we can be expecting more stupendous and mind-boggling innovations in the nearest future without any fear of being proved over-ambitious and unrealistic later. After all, those who witnessed the emergence of the chalk and blackboards could have reasonably and agreeably concluded that they had seen the peak of development in instructional delivery; they could not have understood or believed that there would come a time like this when the highly sophisticated innovations being employed to facilitate learning in and outside the classroom now would be possible.
