Abstract Occupational Stress is a common feeling experienced by the employees of all the industries today. It is paving its way to become a hallmark of the teaching profession too. In this regard, the effectiveness of work place policies and practices supporting to achieve a proper balance is important. The study aims at identifying major factors that help university teachers to cope with stress. With the help of these factors necessary strategies can be formulated at the institutional level that create stress free and positive atmosphere. The data collection is done with the help of a structured questionnaire from 183 university teachers of Gujarat seeking their opinions regarding the ways preferred by them to cope with stress. The analysis was done with the help of Principal Component Analysis. The results revealed visiting places of worship, practicing yoga or meditation, engaging in physical activities, consuming food many a times, listening music and taking short breaks as the most preferred activities to overcome the feelings about stress. It is suggested that yoga sessions, meditation programs, games and activities should be organized on regular intervals as the best practices for rejuvenating teachers.
