The scenario of healthcare and wellness tourism business: An Indian Perspective

Abstract

Recently, India has strategically secured its place among the top destinations of the world for medical tourism. Several factors have contributed for this achievement, including the overall quality of healthcare services in India. One of them must be mention here, is the cost advantage. In India complex surgeries being done in world class hospitals by acclaimed medical specialists at 5 to 10 times low cost. From quality of therapy, range of procedural and treatment opportunities, infrastructure and skilled human resource to perform any medical procedure with zero waiting time. The advantages, for foreign nationals travelling for medical treatment in India, are numerous. India has received an earnings of $27 billion from Foreign Tourist Arrivals in 2017. In addition to this, the tourism sector has contributed 6.88 per cent to the country's total GDP, apart from 12.36 per cent of the total employment in terms of jobs.
