Abstract Organizations depend on the flexibility and capacity of their employees to adapt to a constantly changing and highly competitive business environment as well as their ongoing capability to develop and cultivate up-to-date knowledge and skills in order for these organizations to perform optimally in global markets. There is a close association between personal characteristics like gender, age, community status, size of the family, number of graduates in the family, family income and his/her employability quotient. The employability quotient is calculated based on the performance of respondents in aptitude and attitude tests. The scores are converted into Z scores for easy comparison of aptitude and attitude scores. The employability quotient (EQ) based on aptitude scores, attitude scores and combined scores are further analysed based on the personal factors, family characteristics, educational and occupational characteristics of the parents of the respondents. Hence in this paper an attempt is made by the authors to analyse the relationship between personal characteristics and employability quotient of engineering students.
