Premarital counselling and practices: An exploration

Abstract

As people think over getting married there comes a number of questions regarding accepting a new identity of their own and adapting to the individuality of another person, the relevance of premarital counselling emerges here. Premarital counselling centres across Kerala has been conceived as an output of increasing marital dissolutions and insecurities regarding marital commitment from the part of prospective brides/grooms and their parents as well. Investigator intends to identify the existing practise of premarital counselling. For the same investigators approached fifteen premarital counsellors for data generation by means of purposive sampling. Semi structured interview is the mode of data collection wherein investigators aims to identify the academic calibre of counsellors, mission and vision behind premarital counselling, the presenting complaints reported by males and females, also those presented by their parents, management techniques adopted by counsellors and finally the expected outcome of these counselling. Qualitative thematic analysis is carried out for data analysis. Results and discussion will be explained in detail in full paper.
