Field Efficacy of Insecticides Against Pod bug [(Clavigralla gibbosa (Spinola)] and Pod fly (Melanagromyza obtusa Malloch) Infesting Pigeonpea

Abstract

All the insecticides, each applied in two different schedules were found significantly superior over the control in reducing the pest population. The order of efficacy in case of pod bug and pod fly was monocrotophos > endosulfan > cypermethnn > fenvalerate > deltametnn > carbaryl (D) > malathion (D) > control The insecticides applied two times first at flowering and podding stage and second at 25 days after the first application was significantly superior over the single application i.e at flowering and podding stage. The temporal population distribution of pod bug exhibited significant difference and the maximum population was recorded on 18th December and minimum on 1st January while it was vice-versa in case of pod fly. The maximum grain yield was obtained in monocrotophos treated plots (18.28 q/ha) as compared to control plots (9.78 q/ha).
