Nucleolar Behaviour and Chromosomal Aberrations in Mitosis of Acanthus Ilicifolius and Asystasia Coromandeliana Narayanan C. R. American College, Madhurai Summary Nucleolar behaviour during mitosis have been described in two species, Acanthus ilicifolius and Asistasia coromaneliana. Evidence has been presented in support of the view that in root-tip colls persistent nucleoli very often get included in the daughter nuclei during telophase. The high and sometimes variable chromosome numbers found in root-tip cells as well as the frequent casting out of one or more chromosomes in the cytoplasm during mitosis, suggest that both the species are unstable polyploids.
