Abstract The main objectives of this paper is to explain the trends and patterns of yield rate of principal crops in West Bengal for one decade and also to find out some factors those are responsible for the variation in yield rate of principal crop in West Bengal. The sample consists of a cross section of 18 districts of West Bengal and the period begins from 2000–01 to 2011–12. The study uses seven types of crops as principal crops and finds that there is a mixed trend in yield rate of all those seven principal crops in West Bengal for the referred period. Using pooled regression techniques (ordinary least square) the study observe that, rainfall, chemical fertilizer, percentage share of irrigated area and per hectare working capital for principal crop play significant role in explaining the yield rate of principal crops in West Bengal. Chemical fertilizer, percentage share of irrigated area and per hectare working capital for principal crop is positively related with yield rate of principal crops in West Bengal. On the other hand, rainfall is negatively related with yield rate of principal crops in West Bengal. Top Keywords Principal crops, Yield rate. Top |
